In the recent years, I have see an explosions of ebooks, video course, webniars, guru coaching, etc on Web. 20 marketing and how to drive traffic and promote your affiliate products using Web 2.0 sites. Each claimed to have found a secret formula for wealth creation using these sites. While I have never written a comprehensive guide and put all the ideas together in one place, I have published quite a number of posts on this subject. This guide is an attempt to streamline all the information, so called “secrets”,and  tips and tricks to make a comprehensive resource for affiliate marketers.

Before I start on the subject, let me introduce to you some of my earlier posts on driving traffic and building links using Web 2.0 sites. In how to harness Squidoo traffic for online marketing, I introduced you to a Web 2.0 site called Squiddo and showed you how you can use it for your affiliate marketing. Just like me, you’re probably inundated with emails that promise you online riches for doing nothing and the secret to making money lies in the hottest product those emails are peddling.  I buy my fair share of ebooks and courses from online marketers and I have spent thousands over the course of the year. You may ask why do I buy these courses if they are not going to make me riches overnight?

There are two reasons. The first reason is I can afford the money to spend because I have already overcome the first hurdle of internet marketing – i.e. generating a steady income from an online business. The second reason is to continuously improve my skill set. If I learn a new technique from any product I think the product is worth the money provided it is not more than $100.  If the product is rehashed of the common internet marketing stuff that I already know, I get a refund. If you’re completely new to internet marketing and constrained by limited finance, you need to get some cash first. And this free ebook discusses how to make your first dollar online.

Getting links to your site from websites outside your domain is the most important part of building back links and higher search engine rankings. The more back links you get, the higher your site will climb in the search engines. I have discussed many techniques on how to leverage web links for higher search engine rankings. I have decided to create a list of popular techniques used by today’s online marketers to get back links. You can always refer to this list as a guide and implement one technique at time to rank higher in search engine result pages.

First, I want to get one misconception out of the way. Many people equate building back links to reciprocal linking. In the case of reciprocal links, you need to provide a link on your site in exchange for a back link on another person’s site. Reciprocal linking is two way linking and not a very effective tool for link building. The techniques discussed here are all one way link building. You don’t have to provide any links to anybody to get back links to your site.

In Part 1 How To Create a Blog For Free Using Blogger I discussed the pros and cons of creating a blog in Blogger platform. The post is not about the pros and cons of creating a blog for affiliate marketing. You must have a website for any product you are promoting if you want traffic from search engines, article marketing , and forum promotion for a long time even after you have ceased to promote the site.

As a reminder, I must reiterate that you should create a blog in Blogger as a last resort only when you cannot afford to spend $10 a month for a reliable web hosting package with unlimited domains. By now you should know why you must create a blog for promoting your affiliate products. If you have any doubt about the importance of a blog in your affiliate marketing business, you can review my earlier post why you should create a blog. If you lack technical skills or money to host a blog in your own domain, you should create a blog for free in Blogger. Blogger is a Google hosted blog platform and it is very popular among affiliate marketers starting out on a shoestring or no budget at all.

Though there are a few other options to create a blog for free, Blogger provides some compelling reasons that triumph over other free blogging services. In Part 1 of my Blogger series, I will discuss the pros and cons of using the Blogger platform to create your first free blog.
