Codemasters has definitely upped the ante in the competitive world of motorsport simulation with Race Driver GRiD. As you will be able to see for yourself, this has got to be one of the best games of the year. It is stunningly beautiful, with amazing graphics and detailed cars, but, as graphics are not the alpha and omega of a game, it also has really fun and immersive game modes, with a very intense multiplayer to boot! Also, if you really like to feel like you are in control of the car you are driving, you can go all out with GRiD: simply choose the manual mode, and you are in for a very hard challenge!
As soon as you start Race Driver GRiD, the spirit of the race comes alive, and you are asked to define your character (usual), and even choose a nickname for him (unusual). This nickname will be used by the computer to identify you during races, adding even more depth to the game.
Anyway, back to "virtureality": in campaign mode (aptly named GRiD World) your pilot, which is still a youngster, will have to compete in stages set all over the world, to get the fame and glory (and big cars) that only a seasoned veteran can obtain. Actually, you will get to choose between various continents, which will then define what type of racing you will be doing. When in Rome, do as the Romans, so if you choose Japan, you will of course be doing some seriously dangerous drifting in the mountain passes or in Tokyo, by night. If you prefer the American way of life, know that you will be able to compete in the U.S. of A. with traditional muscle cars.
