Chapter 12
A Stranger is watching
The silvery moon appeared to dance wildly across the rippling lake as Dominique and Jennifer sat wearing faded blue jeans and thick hunter green beehive knitted sweaters Miranda knitted for their wedding presents. She also knitted one each for both Travis and Ray in dark charcoal gray cotton wool. The duo clinched the garments overlapping them at the front to keep the bitter cold October wind from cutting like steel razor blades at their soft silk skin. Colorful golden brown leaves danced in rhythmical harmony around the half barren trees and over natures back yard’s dance floor to the melody of the whistling wind and giving frequent momentary performances on the veranda, as if they were its only audience while they swayed to and fro on the double swing built for two, watching in a fixed stance at a magical play starring mother nature herself at nature’s magnificent theatre right here in the fowler’s back yard as she celebrated with the natural beauty of the fall season.
Two scary faces perfectly carved in two deep orange candle lit jack-o-lanterns rested on the shady worn white painted wooden deck near a century old spooky looking tree with its deferred long crooked branches lingering in the air. Like the slender long frail boney fingers creeping through an old forgotten grave site that half leaned against the ram shackled wooden white picket fence. There stood a scarecrow made from an old shabby, faded burlap sack and had straw seeping through holes in the body. Its arms stood out straight as a bull whip made from alter branches and had a fake plastic crow perched on its head. The scarecrows tattered straw hat laid on the ground giving an impression the crow picked at the object with is beak
